Innovative Internet of Things Technology (IoT) can be deployed almost anywhere thanks to a lightweight, solar-powered device (read more) developed by Reece Innovation. Collecting data from outdoor sensors is becoming more important in sectors from farming to utilities and construction as they move to find smarter ways of working. IoT networks can be used for a wide range of purposes, such as cattle tracking, measuring soil moisture, water quality or improving staff safety. The Solar Pod combines low-power radio (LoRa or Sigfox) gateways with solar energy to work independently from access to mains power or the telecommunications infrastructure.
Jose Marcelino, solutions architect, Reece Innovation, said: “We have two units ordered that will go to monitor cattle at a farm in Scotland and have many other live inquiries, including one about putting it on Ben Nevis.”
